CROW-EEN 2K8 Costume Scoring
System
This scoring system was originally
developed by someone who worked very hard to make Crow-EEN possible
in the early days of this contest, tWISTEd sPINe. The judging
system has remained unchanged since the last time CrowFans.com
hosted this contest in 2002. Croween 2K3 to 2K6 was handled by
CrowFansOnline/James O'Barr so if you have entered the contests
when they have ran them the scoring system will be different to
you.
Below will be the official scoring
system that our judges use to determine the winners of the CROW-EEN
2K8 Costume Contest. The scoring system is an effort to make the
contest fair for all entries...with an emphasis on creativity
so those costumes that are not as "expensive" still
have a chance at the prizes if they show originality and capture
the essence of The Crow.
Makeup Quality: Possible Points
- 6
The judges will be looking at
the detail of the facial make-up and any other areas of your costume
that use makeup to create an effect. They will be scoring based
on the quality of the work, how crisp the lines are, how cleanly
the makeup is applied, and overall consistency especially in regards
to balance from one side of the face to the other.
Costume Clothing: Possible
Points - 6
Here, The judges will be looking
at how well the clothing you select works together. This area
will be more focused on your dress as a whole (from head to toe)...do
the things your are wearing work together to make a complete visage?
Are there items that look as though they were just thrown in for
the sake of it or does everything come together to create a consistent,
well balanced look? Props can also help in this area...holding
a weapon, fake blood, a rose...anything that can add to the impact
of your costume.
Crow Essence: Possible Points
- 8
The judges will be taking into
account the entire Costume for this...everything combined: Your
makeup, clothing, pose, expression, and setting... everything
will play a factor in this score. Standing under a street light
on a sidewalk, posed in a cemetery by a cool gravestone, these
things ALL contribute to the Essence of your photo. What they
are looking for is intensity...whether it is sorrow or rage or
just looking like one menacing avenger! Does your Costume capture
the "essence" of The Crow? Does it portray those things
we have all come to assosiate with Crow characters? This is obviously
a very subjective part of the scoring system, and will have alot
to do with each judges personal sentiments about The Crow...but
this actually assures that the process is fair and any costume
can score big in this area.
IMPORTANT:
The next two areas of judging will depend on your Costume. If
you have dressed as one of The Crow characters from the comics
OR films, you will be judged on ACCURACY. If you have created
a unique version of The Crow, then you will be judged on CREATIVITY.
Accuracy: Possible Points:
10
Again, you will be judged on Accuracy
ONLY if you have dressed as an existing Crow character. The judges
will be looking at how well you have duplicated the look of that
particular character. Is your makeup identical? Your clothing,
does it match up? PLEASE NOTE: Actual physical resemblance is
not something the judges will take into account...as most people
will not look like the actors or comic characters, so it would
be an unfair advantage to the handful of people that may bear
a resemblance to one of the existing Crow characters.
Creativity: Possible Points:
12
(2 Extra Points Available for Creativity!!)
Again, you will be judged on Creativity
ONLY if you have created your own version of The Crow. The judges
will be scoring based on originality. What sets your Costume apart
from other Crow characters that have been done in film or comics?
How inventive have you been? Is your make-up or "mask"
unique? The judges will not be scoring this based on their own
feelings of what a Crow should look like, but will be focusing
on how creative your overall Costume concept is.
This creates a 30 (32 for original
Crow Character Costumes) point scoring system from each judge
for ALL Costumes. This system may be revised slightly, but should
give you a VERY good idea of what the judges will be looking at
to determine a winner. We are working hard to make this event
fair for everyone involved, and more importantly FUN!!! Good luck
to all...
